IDC is Proud to Announce Fely Tchaco’s Win for the Independent Music Awards in the World Beat Song Category!

Tchaco was awarded first place for her nominated song “Goba,” which can be found on her newly released CD “Maturite.” In an interview found in the Independent Music Awards website, Tchaco reflects on the song and states, “… ‘Goba’ comes from a forest rhythm music and dance from the Central West part of the Ivory Coast of the Guro tribe. The style can be called Gahou or Zahouli. Zahouli dance was originally invented by a woman, it denotes beauty, grace and challenge. It is normally played acoustically, but I modernized it and added Guitar, Bass and Synths.”

Karney – Love & Respect CD

Karney shows an ear for poetic phrasings that encapsulate the impact of socio-political themes that are often as unsettling as they are urgent. This is true of her new CD “Love & Respect”, which releases digitally and physically on July 10th, 2012. Karney has addressed such topics as young war victims, the unreasonably harsh penalties enforced on those violating marijuana prohibition, global warming, and outsourcing and its affects on workers. Her heavy lyrical themes are balanced out by winsome rhythms and some lighter fare that veers away from the political into more personal musings on life’s small pains and pleasures, along with the occasional wry wink at unvarnished sexuality.

On this new record, King Noah, the Baltimore, MD rapper has created something purely hip-hop—no gimmicks, no swag. With Jazz-infused beats, soulful melodies, and uplifting messages, King Noah (NU Revolution Entertainment) is a celebration of his young son, Kingston Noah Parker, and of life. From being in the DMC US Finals so many times, he has amassed a wealth of fans who were all confident that 2011 would be his year finally, and it was!!! The judges for the 2011 DMC US Finals had the most excruciating time selecting their 1st, 2nd and 3rd place picks.

Jeff Campbell – Stop and Go CD

Bay Area singer/songwriter Jeff Campbell may be recognized in town as the front man for rock band Pine and Battery, but while Campbell was sifting through some old demos, the idea to record a solo acoustic album was sparked. After deciding to record an acoustic EP, Campbell got together with co-producer Charlie Wilson at Sonic Zen Records in Berkeley, California to touch up some older material, but wound up with more than they bargained for. Stop and Go also boasts guest performances from several of the Bay area’s finest musicians, including Megan Slankard, Brad Brooks, Austin Wilacy and James Deprato, who not only offered performance talents, but also lent hands with songwriting, arrangements and production.

Full Time Beret – Sincerely CD

Although the songs could be characterized as modern, acoustic, and edgy, the tone of the lyrics, and the unusual influences evident in this music set it apart from much of the music that crowds the contemporary soundscape. Listen closely. You will hear strains of classical Spanish guitar, Celtic dirges, dark folk-rock – and the death-screams of demons. This is music to drown in.

Adam Walter – Pre-Text CD

Adam J. Walter is a multi-intstrumentalist composer, arranger and performer hailing from San Jose, CA. Currently playing with up and coming hip-hop / trip-hop duo The Bins (1320 records) and Chingus, Walter also leads his own “jazz” quartet, performing original instrumental funk-fusion and acid jazz tunes. On this debut full length effort, Pre-Text, his skills on alto, tenor and bari saxophones as well as flute are showcased, over a tight driving rhythm section which navigates complex time changes with ease.

Peter Chauncey – Rhythms of Initiation CD

Peter Chauncey’s fans have compared him vocally to David Bowie with the sensuality of Marvin Gaye, lyrically to Seal and Steely Dan, stylistically to Corey Glover of Living Colour and musically to M83 and Moby. Currently based out of San Jose, CA (hometown: Jackson, MS), Chauncey is still working a day job as a social worker (“to pay the bills!”) and putting together a band for live performances in 2012. The tracks on “rhythms of initiation” range from the funky opener, “Body in Motion,” to pop, “Did I Hear You Say” to melodic electronica, “To the Point of Obsession” to the stirring vocals and orchestra piece, “Bridge of Pages.”
