WATCH NOW! On YouTube!

American Singer/Songwriter JORDAN HURWITZ proudly presents captivating and soulful pop, powerful melodies, and story-telling ballads that speak to the challenges people face in their everyday lives, and empower them to rise above. She is very excited to release her newest music video for the single “I LOVE YOUR ABS” off her latest LOVESICK. EP. Jordan recently completed her successful LOVESICK. tour along the West and East Coasts, showcasing this EP of six original songs that highlight her evolving musical maturity and continued depth in her songwriting. The “I LOVE YOUR ABS” MUSIC VIDEO will premiere at 6 PM PST on October 12, 2017 on https://exposedvocals.com/ and https://blackframeglasses.com/ A short teaser for the video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFxQal-tQKc&feature=youtu.be

Produced and arranged by Narada Michael Walden (Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin), LOVESICK. was recorded at his Tarpan Studios and released through his Tarpan Records label. “Working with Narada is an incomparable and invaluable experience,” she says. “His talent and artistry take my music to a whole new dimension and continue to be nothing less than amazing.” LOVESICK. is JORDAN HURWITZ’s second EP working with Narada, following her Here I’ll Stand EP released with Tarpan Records in 2015. “I LOVE YOUR ABS” is Jordan’s second music video from LOVESICK., with her first widely-acclaimed “Riverbank” music video premiering earlier this year as part of the EP’s launch. The LOVESICK. and Here I’ll Stand EPs were preceded by Jordan’s debut album Infinity in 2013, and The New Me, produced by Marcus Barone, in 2014.

Reviewing LOVESICK., Russell Trunk of Exclusive Magazine said, “In truth, no matter if it’s the tongue in cheek pop song ‘I Love Your Abs’, the poignant ballad ‘Power’, the stoic Blues-feel of ‘Riverbank’ or even ‘Hurricane’, this new album is as good as anything Narada has been involved with, in my opinion. I mean, just ‘Lovesick’ alone, with its Latin beats, engaging hip-sway rhythm might just be as close to a genuine Top 10 radio hit as Hurwitz has ever been – and deservedly so, trust me.” He also had glowing reviews for Jordan’s Here I’ll Stand EP, saying “… [she is] so apt at creating musical visions to back her every lyric that it’s hard not to imagine her standing proudly alongside Taylor Swift at an awards ceremony one day.”

JORDAN HURWITZ uses her lyrics to work through the trials and tribulations of growing up. “I would be nothing without my lyrics. My songwriting is who I am,” says Jordan. “A finished song always brings resolution to my internal conflicts,” she notes. “The problems themselves sometimes never change, but my actions and perspectives do. Every song I’ve ever written carries the motif of being broken and finding the strength to rise above. Often, before I create the song I don’t have this strength, but the empowering lyrics play on repeat in my head until they become reality.”

Born and raised in Redwood City, California, Jordan spends most of the year in Miami, Florida, where she attends University of Miami’s Frost School of Music in the highly-regarded Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program. “Being a student at Frost provides me with the constant surroundings of extremely motivated and talented peers as well as professors, keeping me eager to better myself and my music. Frost is the perfect place to continue my music education and evolve my career as a singer/songwriter.” JORDAN HURWITZ can often be seen performing in venues around town as well as university-related events.

JORDAN HURWITZ’s musical experience began with piano lessons at age six, and has evolved to include drums, voice training, and guitar, all of which she now uses to accompany her songwriting. “Empowering myself with song was life-changing in itself, but that doesn’t even compare to the feeling deriving from other people relating to my songs. It gives me comfort to know that the issues I face are faced by other people, and it gives me a sense of pride realizing that with my music, I can help them feel better about themselves as well.” She released her first album of original songs at age 16, and hasn’t stopped writing or performing since.

JORDAN HURWITZ is always working on new music. She appreciates and is influenced by artists from many genres, including Billy Joel, Sara Bareilles, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, and Lady Gaga. Stay on the lookout for more from this amazing new artist.

Music Street Journal Track-by-Track Review: Cornell CC Carter “Vindicated Soul”

814519022985

“If you find yourself longing for the classic soul music of the 1970s, you will probably feel at home here. It’s obvious that Cornell CC Carter shares that feeling to a large degree. You can tell it in the dedications on the disc, but even more so you can feel it, and hear it, in the music. This is very much in keeping with the classic soul music era. If you dig that kind of stuff, you will like this. It’s both classic and classy.

Track by Track Review

Intro: This short (less than a minute and a half) piece is built on some definite old school soul sounds. Of course, it’s dedicated to a number of the legends of that musical style, and they are called out by name here. This is classic sounding stuff.

All the Way Around: More killer old school soul is on the menu here. The cut feels like something that could have been released in the 1970s.

Watching You: Perhaps the keyboard sounds on this bring into a bit more modern place. That said, this is still something that feels like it would have fit into the 1970s. There is a funk, almost disco, sound to this number. I love the funk breakdown on this piece.

I Choose You: I dig this one a lot, too. It’s another classic soul sounding tune. It loses that disco/funk element that we heard on the last one. This doesn’t lose that 1970s vibe, though.

Next to You: There is a healthy helping of electronic fusion built into this one. It’s a classy cut that brings back some of that funky thing. Still, it’s a retro slab of cool. This might have the best vocal arrangement of the whole disc.

Where Do We Go (Boogie Back Remix): Now, this cool cut makes me think of Marvin Gaye quite a bit. It has some definite funk and more modern elements built into it, too. This is one of my favorites on the whole disc, really. It’s just so classy.

Brother’s Gonna Work It Out: With a lot of funk, this has a much more modern sound. This feels closely tied to modern soul music. That said, it clearly has ties to the retro elements, too. While this is a fun cut, it’s not up to the same level as the previous pieces.

Look What You’ve Done for Me: This is an energized soul number with both modern and classic sounds at its heart.”

IDC is so excited about the new single from Cindy Blackman Santana!

888915435045_small.jpg

Cindy Blackman Santana is a virtuoso drummer whose artistry spans the realms of jazz and rock. As a bandleader and as a musician, Cindy is a sound innovator with a passion for pushing creative boundaries and exploring movement and change. She is as known for the nuances and colors she brings to her beats and fills as she is for the sheer power of her soulful playing. “Some drummers act, some react. Some keep time, others create it. Cindy Blackman Santana is among the few who can,” writes Mike Zwerin of the International Herald Tribune.

Her recording career began in the late ’80s, and she has released albums with an acoustic ensemble—the Cindy Blackman Quartet—as well as with her electric outfit. One she cites as among her favorites is 2000’s Works On Canvas. “I like where the band was at that point, our sound was becoming really cohesive,” she says. The review in Jazz Times noted that the album “proceeds like an impressionistic suite in which she not only functions as the main rhythmic engine of the music, but also a magnificent colorist…Works on Canvas is an amazing portrait of one of this generation’s most colorful drummers.”

Cindy is currently featured on the Santana/Isley Brothers release Power of Peace, featuring the song “I Remember” which she wrote and sings. In 2016, she connected with fellow drummer and world-class producer Narada Michael Walden (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin) and together the two have been working on new material. Cindy Blackman Santana will release the new single titled “Fun Party Splash” on Narada Michael Walden’s Tarpan Records in the summer of 2017, and continues to build a body of work and artistic legacy that make her one of the finest drummers, and recording artists of this or any generation.

The Aquarian Review: Jennifer Saran “Wake Up”

wakeup

“Singer/songwriter Jennifer Saran doesn’t rap, she sings in a most delectable way, always in service to the song. The title track of her self-released Wake Up features Ladysmith Black Mambazo and some guitarist named Santana as produced by Narada Michael Walden. It’s a clarion call for the enlightened. Saran is based in Hong Kong and has the kind of eclectic musical worldview to the point where she takes George Michael’s “Jesus To A Child”—with Walden on drums—and wraps it in the gauzy haze of four violins, two violas, cello and flute with her voice emanating out from within the middle. Similarly, when she tackles the Billy Paul hit “Me And Mrs. Jones,” changing the gender and leaking body fluids all over the mix, one can feel the danger of falling in love with someone when you’re already married to someone else. Most impressive, though, is her complete overhaul of the 1957 Patti Page hit “Old Cape Cod” and the 1952 Doris Day hit “My Love And Devotion” which sent me scurrying to YouTube to hear the originals. Her “Lean On Me” does Bill Withers proud and her originals beg to be interpreted in other genres. Welcome to the big stage, Jennifer Saran! You deserve it.”

Fatea Records Review: Jennifer Saran “Wake Up”

Jennifer Saran Cover.2.1

“This is indeed a rare jewel.”

“Jennifer Saran is an American born Hong Kong based singer songwriter of whom I knew nothing prior to the receipt of this latest album to review. I am certain that this is more my loss than hers. One of her aims in life, through both her music and charitable work, would seem to be to make the world we live in a better place. She is involved with a number of charities and the proceeds from the title track, “Wake Up” will go to the Desmond Tutu Foundation in South Africa.

The “Wake Up” album is a bit of a jewel for music lovers, containing a mix of almost every genre of music with the exception of opera. In addition to Jennifer’s amazing voice, it includes the Ladysmith Black Mambazo choir from South Africa and the renowned guitarist Carlos Santana. One thing that really struck me about Jennifer’s vocals is the clarity of her diction. No need here to rush off to find the sleeve notes to understand what she is singing about.

The album contains a mix of new songs written by Jennifer either alone or in collaboration with others and a number of tribute songs to other artists. All produced by Narada Michael Walden in California.

The tribute songs make for an unusual contribution to this production. A couple are fairly predictable, Bill Withers (Lean On Me) and Billy Paul (Me and Mr Jones.) The others, much less so! George Michael’s “Jesus To A Child” is quite superb and emphasises the quality of Jennifer’s voice. It also demonstrates what a talent the world of music lost with the death of George. Two of the other renditions came as a bit of a shock to this listener. Patti Page’s “Old Cape Cod” and Doris Day’s “My Love and Devotion” are not tracks that you would expect to hear on a CD issued in 2017. They are both however quite wonderful and the producer has done an incredible job of making the songs sound like they had been recorded at the relevant period in time, demonstrating total respect for the original artist and musicians! “Old Cape Cod” reminds me of music from a Busby Berkeley film although it never appeared in one. It just has that sound and feel to it and even includes vocal backing that is reminiscent of The Andrews Sisters.

There are a few real gems in the self-penned songs too. The title track “Wake Up” is a very uplifting song despite its very harsh warning about the state of our planet. Rather unusually for a protest song, it is played with a real beat and the backing of the choir. It works for me though and makes me listen to the words far more than some of the dirges I have heard in the past which try to make a point. “I Will Always be Your Home” is a line that all parents will have, at one point, told their children. A delightfully slow and very thought provoking track! “Really” sounds as though it has come straight from the local disco and “Grace is the Champion” is an excellent example of modern alt pop.

Jennifer is a lady who really cares about life and has produced an album to match her passion. I can honestly say that I like every track on this album. Some more than others but the same can be said of almost every album ever issued. One track will lift you up, the next will make you think about your life and that of others less fortunate. This is indeed a rare jewel. A lady who would make a wonderful dinner guest and is a very accomplished singer songwriter to be admired and taken notice of!”

World Music Central Review: Jennifer Saran “Wake Up”

Jennifer Saran Cover.2.1

“Although Wake Up features celebrated South African ensemble Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Carlos Santana as guests, this new album by singer-songwriter Jennifer Saran is a pop effort, seeking a mass audience. It includes familiar songs, has sing along pop hooks and dance beats. The album wants to bring awareness to inequality and poverty throughout the globe.

The highlight of the album is Saran’s interplay with Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Wake Up includes covers of pop hits by Patty Page, Doris Day, Bill Withers, and George Michael.

Funds from Jennifer Saran’s musical projects go to various entities, including the Kuldeep Saran Memorial Trust, the Hong Kong Women’s Choir and the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation in South Africa.”

Femail Review: Jennifer Saran “Wake Up”

wakeup

“To say the very least, Jennifer Saran is a prolific artist. After releasing her debut holiday-themed album Merry Christmas, You Are Loved in 2015, followed shortly thereafter by Walk With Me in 2016, Saran is now finalizing her new 15-track album Wake Up. A mix of alt-pop and adult contemporary covers and originals produced by the legendary Narada Michael Walden at his Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, CA, Wake Up features guest appearances by multiple Grammy-winning guitar legend Carlos Santana and South African Grammy-winning male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Wake Up will release in stores & online worldwide on July 7th, 2017.

Jennifer Sara is a North American artist, songwriter, and vocalist based in Hong Kong. In 2016, Jennifer teamed up with Narada Michael Walden (they obviously love working together) and Ladysmith Black Mambazo to create her new album’s titular single ‘Wake Up.” Also, making a special guest appearance on the track is multiple Grammy-winning legend Carlos Santana. This stunning collaboration is a heartfelt appeal to recognize and address worldwide inequality and impoverishment, a cause incredibly important to each of these amazing artists involved. Jennifer travelled to South Africa to record with Ladysmith and to film scenes for the song’s music video, released with the single on November 11, 2016.

Wake Up features Jennifer’s versions of classic hits from artists such as Patty Page, Doris Day, Bill Withers, and George Michael, each of whom holds a special place in her heart. Jennifer’s original songs and conscious messages have resonated with fans and media alike, and her music has been released to many great reviews and widespread radio exposure around the world, including interviews on syndicated radio stations in the US and the UK. The ‘Wake Up” single was reviewed or mentioned in magazines and websites including Songwriting Magazine, Women Talking, and Clare Balding conducted a wonderful in-depth interview with Jennifer on BBC Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday. The ‘Wake Up” music video aired on over 100 broadcast video outlets in the past several months across the US, including rotation on California Music Channel, PC Music Pool, and The Sound Chamber, reaching millions of viewers. On social media, the video has had almost 100,000 views across Facebook and YouTube.

Jennifer Saran, aka Jennifer Hill, was born in Washington DC to a Canadian mother and American father. Years later she stumbled upon a women’s choir with the American Women’s Association (AWA) in Hong Kong in 1992, which she joined as a Mezzo (second soprano/first alto). She and members of that choir broke away in 1997 and formed The Hong Kong Women’s Choir, where the group performed to raise money for local charities. Under the brand name -NOVA,’ and with an additional a cappella subgroup named -Grace Notes,’ the choir’s aim was to perform more contemporary music and raise money for the disadvantaged in Hong Kong.

THKWC has performed for multiple events over the last 20 years, including charity functions and public performances, and while many wonderful local and international women have joined and departed over the years, Jennifer is the sole remaining founding member. This year is the Choir’s 20th anniversary, to be celebrated at Hong Kong’s historically famous Western Market.

In 2007, Jennifer also established a memorial trust in the name of her late husband, Kuldeep Saran, at the time of his death. She is involved in many charitable efforts, including The Kuldeep Saran Memorial Trust, whose objective is to support the education and well-being of disadvantaged children in Hong Kong, through education programs, and a -bricks and mortar’ renovation to a local Hong Kong school that educates minority children.

KSMT Ventures, which manages donations from other organizations that fund charitable projects, one of which is AnEW, Arts and Education for Women, a Christian-Action program supporting refugee women and asylum seekers in Hong Kong.

Proceeds from her musical endeavors will go to the Kuldeep Saran Memorial Trust and the Hong Kong Women’s Choir, for the educational support of disadvantaged children. Proceeds from the single, ‘Wake Up” will go to the Desmond Tutu foundation in South Africa.

Jennifer is the mother of 3 children, Paul, Phillip, and Anjali. She continues to write new songs and travels the world, trying to uplift and engage, educate and empower, our future generations.”

RockTimes Review: Jennifer Saran “Wake Up” (translated)

Jennifer Saran Cover.2.1

“Recently, we brought the news , in which the new album “Wake Up” by the singer / songwriter Jennifer Saran was announced and now the disc is on the table.

Jennifer Saran aka Jennifer Hill , who was born in the USA, lives in Hong Kong and began her singing career there. In 1992, she joined a women’s choir and took the mezzosopran with her voice. Five years later, together with other members, she left this choir and founded The Hong Kong Women’s Choir , whose main goal is to make money for charity. Under the name Nova and supported by the A cappella group Gracenotes is a preferred charity for the disadvantaged.

In 2015, she made her debut with the Christmas album “Merry Christmas – You Are Loved”, and a year later, “Walk With Me”. Her career as a singer runs well, yes, more than well, because radio stations, video portals and social networks ensure enormous distribution. This is also a good thing, because a large part of their income goes to the needy of this world. Examples are the ‘Kuldeep’ Saran Memorial Trust ‘(a foundation established after the death of their husband Kuldeep Saran ), who takes care of the education and welfare of disadvantaged children in Hong Kong. Then there is still support for the Hong Kong Women’s Choir , Who is celebrating the 20th anniversary this year and Jennifer is the only remaining founding member. ‘Arts and Education for Women’ supports refugee women and asylum seekers in Hong Kong and the revenue of the single “Wake Up” goes to the ‘Desmond Tutu Foundation’ in South Africa.

The woman is doing well and did so now with this album also for herself, because beside own songs, there are also cover pieces of musicians, which are dear to your heart. This naturally results in a kind of hodgepodge, because there next to Bill Withers or George Michael z. For example, a Doris Day . Jennifer’s versions, or her vocal abilities, however, make this an easy one, because it sounds perfect. Yes, actually this voice is almost too perfect for me. There is no corner or edge place, but this is now critique at the highest level. However, if one likes singing and music from a rather rocky environment, one has to fight first with the beauty of the voice.

Also Santana’s guitar playing in the title track is rather subtly adapted to the well-arranged arrangements of the album. Like the South African Grammy winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo , Carlos is on board as a guest musician. The covers I know are very close to the original and especially the “Me And Mrs. Jones”, known by Billy Paul, underline the fact that Jennifer has also made a massive change to the song name. Because of the Mrs. became a Mr. and therefore also the lyrics had to be changed in the affected places.

Produced was the album by Narada Michael Walden , who not only drums on “Wake Up”, but also stands next to Jennifer at the Micro. Stylistically, the album moves in a melange of pop for adults, singer / songwriter, soul as well as R & B. Hard to grasp but actually on the common denominator, the great voice, there is nothing to shake.
In Rockhaushalt it will surely have “Wake Up” hard to get rotation. But if there is desire for adult contemporary music, what is fitting in the house.

Line-up Jennifer Saran:

JP’s Music Blog Review: Jennifer Saran “Wake Up” [OUT TODAY!]

wakeup

“American singer/songwriter Jennifer Saran is preparing to release her third studio album in three years. Her new release features guests like Carlos Santana and Ladysmith Black Mombazo and is titled “Wake Up.” Saran mixes together originals with covers songs, done her way. The new 15-song album begins with the wonderful harmonies of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, highlighted by the lead guitar of Carlos Santana on the island flavor of “Wake Up.” She pays tribute to the recently departed George Michael with a smooth, gentle cover of his song “Jesus To A Child” and also pays tribute to Billy Paul with a cover of “Me And Mr. Jones.” The energy picks back up with the African rhythm of “You Are My Star” as Saran duets with members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The tributes continue with her nostalgic cover of “Old Cape Cod” as a tribute to Patti Page and then an emotional delivery of “Lean On Me” as a tribute to Bill Withers. The album finishes with the beautiful ballad “My Love And Devotion” for Doris Day and the soulful prayer “Aad Guray.” To find out more about Jennifer Saran and her latest release “Wake Up,” please visit jennifersaran.com.”
