International Reggae Artist I-Octane Teams up
with Twice GRAMMY award-Nominated JBoog for Single and Selected Tour Dates

Jamaica, U.S.A (MPR Consulting) – On the heels January 13th memorable and exciting performance at renowned stage show Rebel Salute in Jamaica, International reggae star I-Octane has premiered his new single “Pretty Loud” featuring two times nominated Reggae artist J Boog, and announced that he will join him for selected California tour dates.

The latter will be in support of I-Octane’s anticipated third full length album titled “Love and Life”, which is set to release on March 30th, 2018. Albeit much earlier performances will be announced, the California leg of JBoog’s L.O.E tour will introduce reggae star I-Octane to new fans, and deliver a dose of Jamaica’s steeped vibes to San Luis Obispo, Bakersfield, Fresno, Redway and Monterey.

Speaking on the song’s inspiration, I-Octane explained “I was in the studio talking with my brethrens about how we see some beautiful women that never can keep a man, or always change men. We all know some of them that think that because they are beautiful, they should be treated a certain way. It’s like that is all they have to offer, and they come with a certain attitude and expectations from men. Of course it’s not all women, I don’t want to stereotype, but it’s plenty of them. That basically was the inspiration. That is what the song Pretty Loud is about. The idea to work with JBoog came from my manager Wendy. We were talking about him and his accomplishments in reggae on the international front, and she suggested him for the record, and yeah he delivered as expected, his voice just fit in perfect. It’s one of my favorite collaborations. I get to introduce him to my audience, and i get to know his audience. We give thanks.

Distributed by IDC, “Pretty Loud” will be available on February 9th, is now purchasable as a pre-order smarturl.it/IoctaneJboog

As a fan of reggae music, i have long admired and actually been a fan myself of I-Octane. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some great artists and now I can count him among those names. What makes it sweeter is not only our collaboration, but the fact that we will perform it together when he joins my L.O.E tour in Cali. One Love” – J Boog

AVAILABLE NOW! – SYDNEY BROWN Releases Her Debut Single “LOVE IS STRONGER THAN SMOKE AND FIRE” Produced by NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN to Benefit CA Fire Victims

9 Feb

888915542521

For Immediate Release – San Francisco, CA – SYDNEY BROWN is a Pop singer/songwriter from San Francisco, CA, and together with Bay Area legend NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN wrote and recorded the single “LOVE IS STRONGER THAN SMOKE AND FIRE” as a benefit for the victims of the 2017 California fires. Presently 16 years old, Sydney began her singing career in 2009 and has performed in over ten Broadway musicals with different local theatre companies, including her favorites Legally Blonde, West Side Story, and Sweet Charity. Sydney met Narada in 2010 and began performing with him at his Spring Fling with Strings Concert, singing a cover of the Bill Withers classic “Lean on Me” for her first solo performance.

SYDNEY BROWN began writing her own music in 2017, and is excited to release her debut single “LOVE IS STRONGER THAN SMOKE AND FIRE” on February 9, 2018. The song is co-written and produced by the iconic Grammy-winning producer NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN, who has also produced such legendary stars as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Sting, and George Michael. The single was recorded at the illustrious Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California, and will be released in association with Walden’s Tarpan Records.

When the devastating California fires broke out in October 2017, Sydney had already been recording with Narada. Horrified by what had happened to so many people in their area, they sat down to discuss lyrics and ideas, and the song “LOVE IS STRONGER THAN SMOKE AND FIRE” was born. Then Sydney had an idea: instead of creating this song for herself, she wanted to release the single in the interest of helping the fire victims that were so close to her. She teamed up with YouCaring and The Red Cross to ensure that proceeds from the single would go directly to both the Northern and Southern California fire victims. Within 48 hours of launching Sydney’s YouCaring fundraising campaign, her initial goal of $5,000 was met. Funds are still being raised. For more information on the fundraising project, please visit youcaring.com/sydneybrownmusic.

The intense message of the lyrics and the situation has inspired the creation of a full-length music video for the song, with scenes in the video that include footage from the Sonoma, Napa, and Los Angeles fires and their aftermath. Shot exclusively in and around Sonoma County, the video will debut worldwide on February 16, 2018. See a short preview of the video at https://youtu.be/6bWg1-JHtKg.

The 2017 California fires have been devastating, and this cause has touched Sydney’s heart. Her goal is to touch the hearts of others and to ensure that all the fire victim’s lives are restored to the best of their ability. Like her father Willie Brown, former Mayor of San Francisco, Sydney believes in justice for everyone, no matter what. SYDNEY BROWN and Willie Brown will host a release event for “LOVE IS STRONGER THAN SMOKE AND FIRE” at the Golden Gate Yacht Club on February 10, 2018.

Along with her love for music, Sydney has always had a desire to be a social justice warrior. She joined the Mock Trial team when she began high school in Marin County in 2015, sparking a passion for law which has since begun to flourish. Not only has she joined the Mock Trial team, but she has also been hired for an internship with a local criminal defense attorney. As being an advocate for social justice stole her heart, she wanted to combine her music with that passion. With the release of her new single in February 2018, that dream has become a reality.

GEORGE ST. CLAIR Voices Heartfelt Narratives About Life in the American West on His New Album BALLADS OF CAPTIVITY AND FREEDOM

9 Feb

888915536810

For Immediate Release – London, UK – Part western balladeer, part borderland chronicler, songwriter GEORGE ST. CLAIR is a master of conjuring feelings and images of lives past and present. Growing up on the high plains of Texas put George in touch with the vastness of the American West, and his songs evoke the dry deserts, rolling grasslands, and high mountains of his West Texas homeland. Living for the past several years in the UK has given him a renewed perspective on the land where he grew up, and these reflections take shape on his new album BALLADS OF CAPTIVITY AND FREEDOM. Although George is based in Europe, the album was recorded at Bird and Egg Studios in Richmond, CA, mixed by Ben Bernstein at Petting Zoo Studios in Oakland, and will release in stores and online worldwide March 2, 2018.

GEORGE ST. CLAIR has known Ben Bernstein for many years as a friend, collaborator, and producer, and has long trusted his taste, musicianship, and technical expertise. To break the ice on their first recording session at Bernstein’s Petting Zoo Studio, they laid down a quick demo of George’s song “The Places Where They Prayed,” with George playing Ben’s vintage Gibson acoustic and singing into a single mic. It seemed to George that they were just getting started, but the initial bounce of the song didn’t sound bad at all. George went back to his home in the UK and was floored when he later heard Ben’s version complete with drums, bass, and pedal steel. The song came bursting through, sounding authentic and natural. After that George knew he wanted Ben to produce the whole record.

Demos were sent, charts were made, and schedules were coordinated, and they got to work immediately upon George’s arrival back from London. Ben had since put together a great core team of musicians – Dan Lebowitz on guitar and pedal steel, Mike Stevens on drums and congas, and Ben himself on bass. He organized the main sessions in the grand live room at Bird and Egg Studios in Richmond, providing the space and equipment to set up as a live quartet. Steve Sarmiento, Ben’s assistant, kept everything ticking and brought a relaxed air along with his technical knowledge. On the final day, Kirby Hammel came in to add great feel and fluidity on organ and piano, which turned out to be a key part of the sound on the forthcoming album.

Experienced and prepared, the musicians got it right away, rehearsing and talking through minor adjustments. As with Ben in the studio, George felt he could trust this team implicitly. With only a few minor additions and adjustments in post-production back at Petting Zoo Studio, these live sessions comprise the new album BALLADS OF CAPTIVITY AND FREEDOM.

GEORGE ST. CLAIR draws on influences from the western Country tradition, Mexican Folk, 1970s Rock, and Texas balladries to narrate hidden stories examining the struggles between Native Americans and white colonizers, and the various plights of migrants to the US. He grew up in and around places where vicious battles were fought over the possession of land, and where large numbers of indigenous people were corralled into encampments. His family background of ranching and wildcat oil prospecting spurred him to probe the more controversial history of that part of the world in his songwriting. With his own sound and point of view, GEORGE ST. CLAIR is a formidable writer who takes the listener to places and times where untold possibilities once existed, and still do.

GEORGE ST. CLAIR cut his musical teeth in Austin, TX, playing Country, Flamenco, and Salsa, and co-founding the band Soniquete, a stalwart of Austin’s Alternative Latin music wave. However, it was while immersed in Latin American music that George’s ideas for melodies and verse still came almost always in the form of country ballads – a type of sound and feeling that was simply in his blood. GEORGE ST. CLAIR found his voice in heartfelt narratives about life in the American West.

For over 20 years George has pursued a career as a professional archeologist and anthropologist, which involved living for extended periods of time in remote places in the American Southwest, Mexico, Peru, and Brazil. While in Mexico, his travels crossing and re-crossing the border further ignited his historical imagination and sharpened his awareness of life in the region. This path eventually brought George to London, where he got his PhD in Anthropology, followed by a few years of lecturing and research at the London School of Economics.

All the while his reading, writing, and further reflection kept fueling a vision that would emerge in his songwriting – a nuanced, poetic voice full of wit and rigor, ever-grounded in his connection to home. While music was never far out of the picture, over the last few years the time came to put all his energies toward it. Bringing all his experiences together, songwriting emerged as the way for George to find his true voice.

Wake to Dream

Review by Gary Hill
The vocals are the real driving element to this set. Each song features multiple layers of singing that showcases so much talent and style. Musically the sound has a pop meets R&B and jazz kind of vibe. The instrumental elements in general take a back seat to the vocals, though. This is quite an entertaining set. I’d love to hear more from this talented artist.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2018  Volume 1 at lulu.com/strangesound.

Track by Track Review
Slow Steady
Piano is a big part of the arrangement here. The vocals really sell it, though. There are multiple layers at times. I like the soulful kind of vibe to this. It’s very much a pop styled tune, but there is jazz and more in the mix.
Wake Up
The acapella motif at the start of this cut is quite soulful. It also holds the tune for a decent amount of time. The sounds that join are understated and quite jazzy. The multiple layers of vocals are definitely the standout element on this piece.
Part Life
Again the vocals are the real magic here. This is musically a bit playful. It’s a catchy pop music based kind of thing.
Wild And Free
I love the jazz vibe to this cut. It’s so cool. I think this is my favorite tune here. The vocal performance is every bit as strong as on the other tunes. It’s just that the musical arrangement comes up to meet it. The bass work here really shines, too. As a bassist, I know that grabs my attention, too.
Simple Gifts
There are some percussive elements (and a bit of other instrumentation) here, but overall this is an acapella number that’s very cool. It’s another highlight of the set with more of those great multiple layers of vocals.

Review by Gary Hill
If you take one look at the cover to this EP you will have a good idea of what the music is like. This group’s sound is based on the pop rock of the 1960s. Think “Beatles,” but it goes beyond that, too. These songs are catchy and really feel classic in nature. This is a talented bunch of musicians who really do a great job of creating strong pop rock music. I heartily recommend this to anyone who thinks that the 1960s sound is long gone. You will feel right at home with this one.

Track by Track Review
The One
This is a classy tune. It’s part Beatles, part The Knack and all cool. I love the little bass led break and the psychedelic vocal bit that follows. An organ adds some retro texture to the segment that comes after that.
Nicole
A breezy balladic cut, this still has a lot of that classic rock texture. It feels a bit more contemporary, though. This is timeless and classic in sound. The vocal arrangement is great, as is the whole smooth groove of the piece.
Pairadice
A bit more rocking, this has a lot of that early Beatles vibe at its heart. This has just a bit of a funky element in some ways, too. This is fun.
Bloom
A balladic tune, this is another great bit of classic pop rock.
Early Morning
This cut really feels like something John Lennon would have done post-Beatles. It’s a melodic piece that skirts the ground between rocker and ballad.
Missed the Train
More of a rocker, this is catchy and classic in tone. I really dig the instrumental section on this. The guitar solo is one of the tastiest here.

LINDSAY BELLOWS – Wake To Dream

Linday Bellows 2017

LINDSAY BELLOWS - Wake To Dream

LINDSAY BELLOWS –
Wake To Dream

Locating the spirit of a city, Californian songstress embraces the whole wide world.

Fiercely independent, Lindsay Bellows usually treads the stage alone, and she conceived this, her debut EP, as an a cappella album. Given an instrumental layer, it turned out better – by focusing the light on the young artist’s tremendous talent and on the many surprises that her songs are comprised of. Joie de vivre oozing out of the record’s cover may say nothing about Linday’s music’s bluesy slant, yet that’s what made “Wake To Dream” so peculiarly perfect.

The handclaps-propelled, spiritual “Wake Up” could induce a blissful trance, but it’s here that Bellows’ lungs reveal their real power, and the soulful musings catch on universal jive, while guitar and bass caress and tickle the simple, if infectious, rhythm and intricate, multi-tracked vocals. There’s no need for transcendence, though, as the lighter beats of “Part Life” make a jungle groove contemporary without ever losing the artist’s integrity to the “tribe” she’s claiming to belong to.

Gracious in “Wild And Free” which can easily lend itself to hip hop treatment, her music is also intimate and sultry; even more so in the bossa-smeared “Simple Gifts” whose engaging lyrics and melody must attract Paul Simon’s attention. The title of “Slow Steady” perfectly reflects its pace: building gradually from unhurried piano chords up, Lindsay’s lines on this piece are stacked carefully, yet precariously, to create an aural pyramid where the melody is rolling over voice loops – that’s why Bellows is self-sufficient on-stage – before her stately walk is turned into a mesmerizing parade of passion.

“I am exactly where I’m supposed to be – perfect place and perfect time,” sings Lindsay, and indeed, her time has come.
