“As the title of the album suggests, we are immersed in the atmosphere of soul music, with an American artist who takes great standards of the genre by traveling between neo-soul, R & B, disco and fresh- Contemporary jazz. Recorded in various studios in San Francisco, Cornell CC Carter, who started his career in 1996 and who was awarded the UK Bright Award twenty years later , pays tribute to the illustrious musicians and composers of soul, funk and even gospel. Proposed in a more contemporary remix while respecting the spirit of all these great black American currents and artists, the songs refer to icons such as Marvin Gaye , Leon Ware , Willie Hutch or Al Green , not to mention a Barry White intro .

Accompanied by international musicians such as Meleccio Magdaluyo (saxophone), Niecey Robinson (chorus), Ernest McKone (organ and keyboards ) and Kirk “KC” Crumpher (drums, bass, organ and keyboards ), Cornell offers a collection of songs Rhythm and vocals are of course essential to transcribe the soul or funky spirit. Starting from fathers like James Brown or Ray Charles , he sprinkles his work from the ” The atmosphere of formations like The Temptations or Kool and The Gang , not to mention Natalie Cole or even Michael Jackson .

Having finally worked with such luminaries as Neil Schon (Journey) or Dionne Warwick , he is also joining the services of the great Carlos Santana , in an album where he proves his great professionalism and great vocal abilities. Concerning the transmission of the timeless spirit of these great musical movements (soul music, funk or jazz), Cornel CC Carter fulfilled his task of offering to all those who love these tempos hot and chaloupés, By producing a collection that is both faithful and modernist, which transpires the imprint of all the great artists mentioned in this chronicle.”

SoulWalking Review: Cornell CC Carter “Vindicated Soul”

14 Jun

814519022985

Cornell C.C. Carter, might best be described as an artist with ‘old school sensibilities’. ‘Vindicated Soul’ was released on the 19th of May, on this San Francisco based singers own label. I think, all told, that C.C. and many Soul Music fans have very similar tastes in music. For instance, one of my absolute favourite Marvin Gaye songs, ‘All The Way Around’, is featured here in a beautiful re-interpretation, which takes nothing away from the brilliant original, but carefully relocates the song into 2017. Leon Ware must have kicked himself, when he handed over that album to Marvin, however, the finished product marked a superb addition to both of the late men’s C.V.’s. Cornel rework’s two Willie Hutch compositions, namely ‘Brother’s Gonna Work It Out’ and ‘I Choose You’, very competently, and I was delighted to hear an old Chapter 8 tune, which I don’t think I have ever heard, covered by an artist, in the form of ‘How Can I Get Next To You’ (penned by the late Patrick Moten). That was originally featured on the group’s ‘This Love Is For Real’ album back in 1985. There are further covers of an Al Green tune (‘Look What You Done for Me’), along with some Cornel originals, including the fine ‘Where Do We Go’, which I featured in the site chart a few months ago. Musically, the line-up features Melecio Magdaluyo (from the Pete Escovedo Orchestra), along with the U.K.’s very own Ernie McKone (brother of Vivienne). A very worthy release indeed, and a very welcome choice of material as well. Highly recommended.”

Rootstime.be Review: Cornell “CC” Carter “Vindicated Soul” (translated)

6 Jun

814519022985

“Beginning last year, I was able to review the album “In The Moment” of San Francisco’s singer and songwriter ‘C.C.’. That album was still produced by top producer Narada Michael Walden, and after many years, Cornell Carter (aka ‘CC’) worked as a prelude to Natalie Cole, ‘Kool And The Gang’ and ‘The Temptations’ Excellent singer of pop, R & B and soul songs.

“Vindicated Soul” is the title of his latest full-CD and this album is, according to Cornell Carter himself, the soundtrack of his life. Of the eight songs on this album there are six covers of songs that have definitely influenced his personal musical preference. After a short intro, the first cover comes with “All The Way Around”, a song from 1976’s legendary soul singer Marvin Gaye, “I Want You”.

The American “Motown” singer, songwriter and producer Willie Hutch even get two musical comics of Cornell Carter on this album, with his versions of his songs “I Choose You” and “Brother’s Gonna Work It Out”, his first hit single from 1973. Both songs are also featured on Willie Hutch’s “The Mack” movie tracktrack album.

Also, the relatively unknown number “Next To You” gets a custom version here. The original interpreters were ‘Chapter 8’, the solid accompaniment group of soul legend Anita Baker. They placed this song on their album “This Love’s For Real” from 2008. The only own composition on this album is a remix of the song “Where We We Go (From Here)” from his cd “In The Moment” that we put on Provide accompanying video for acquaintance.

At the end of this album, Cornell ‘CC’ Carter brings another stunning version of the soul-classic ‘Look What You’ve Done For Me’, who wrote Al Green and released his first single from his album “I’m Still In Love With You “from 1972.” Vindicated Soul “is a musical tribute of a strong R & B and soul singer to his idols and artists who have determined his own career. We will still hear from this California musician in the future, just take it from me.”

Soul and Jazz and Funk Review: Cornell CC Carter “Vindicated Soul”

29 May

814519022985

“CORNELL CARTER, who sometimes just works using his initials “C.C.”, is a top session singer working in and around San Francisco. His CV boasts work with people like Ray Charles, James Brown, The Whispers, The Temptations, Natalie Cole, Kool and the Gang and most recently Narada Michael Walden. Indeed Cornell worked closely with Walden on his last album – the wonderful but sadly neglected ‘Evolution’.

Early last year Mr Carter stepped out of the shadows to release his own album – ‘In The Moment’. It was his third solo set and it brought him to a bigger, more appreciative audience who enjoyed his classy covers of ‘La La Means I Love You’ and ‘Zoom’. Then over the year a series of clever, catchy remixes of other key cuts saw C. C win the hearts of the UK and European modern soul community. The Boogie Back Remix of ‘Where Do We Go’ was particularly well-received.

And guess what? That very remix takes pride of place on Cornell’s latest release – an 8 track mini album… not quite an LP but longer than an EP! The little collection’s called ‘Soul Vindicated’ and the singer calls it “the soundtrack to my life”. Essentially the disc is Cornell’s tribute to his heroes … Willie Hutch, Steve Arrington and Slave, Anita Baker and Chapter 8, Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield. (Their pics adorn the inner sleeve, by the way). And it’s a Curtis thing that kicks things off – an intro jam that’s a Mayfield (circa ‘Superfly’) mash up.

Then there are great takes on Marvin’s Leon Ware-penned ‘All The Way Round’, Willie Hutch’s ‘Brothers Gonna Work It Out’ and ‘I Choose You’, Slave’s ‘Watching You’, Al Green’s ‘Look What You Done’ and Chapter 8’s ‘Next To You’. That leaves Cornell’s own ‘Where Do We Go’ and, you know, it doesn’t sound out of place in such august company!

This is a lovely, proper, little soul collection and if you enjoyed Cornell’s ‘In The Moment’ from last year, this comes highly recommended. Find out more @ www.cc2000music.com

JP’s Music Blog Review: Cornell CC Carter “Vindicated Soul”

24 May

814519022985

“Musical artist Cornell “CC” Carter has been entertaining fans for years. He released his first album, “Let’s Go Back” in 1996 and has performed with the greats like James Brown, Ray Charles and worked with Carlos Santana on his most recent album “Santana IV.” CC’s latest album, “Vindicated Soul” is a tribute to great artists of Soul music. He begins with the Shaft-like “Intro,” before finding his groove on the smooth delivery of Marvin Gaye’s “All The Way Around.” The R&B flavor of “I Choose You” represents the 1973 movie “The Mack,” which also inspired CC at a young age. CC’s vocals fit perfectly into soulful funk of “Next To You,” before finishing his new release with the wonderful, gospel-like soul of Al Green’s “Look What You’ve Done For Me.” To find out more about Cornell “CC” Carter and his latest release “Vindicated Soul,” please visit his Facebook page at facebook.com/Cornell-CC-Carter.”
