Jp’s Music Blog Review: Unknown Hero “In My Head”

4 Oct

“From San Francisco comes the debut album from music producer/graphic artist Unknown Hero. His new album titled “In My Head” combines elements pop and dance music along with a futuristic dystopian storyline that plays into his love of comics and video games. The new 15-song musical soundtrack begins with Kate Wild on vocals for the addictive pop of “Be Alright,” before the modern R&B flavor of “Monsters In My Head” takes over. Unknown Hero displays his music skills on the classical/pop instrumental “A Minor 2125,” then delivers a more EDM (electronic dance music) beat with “Hero Beware.” He combines elements of R&B and electronic soundscapes in “Dance,” while “Keep Moving Me” is pure pop power. Unknown Hero wraps up his new album with the big beats of “Hero’s Groove” and the smooth vocals of “Close My Door.” To find out more about Unknown Hero and his latest release “In My Head,” please visit unknownheromusic.com.”

JP’s Music Blog Review: Birdseed “Not Out Of Time”

8 Aug

“The American rock band Birdseed recently released a new 10” vinyl EP titled “Not Out Of Time.” The band will be touring this fall and they wanted to get more music out to their fans. This new 5-song EP begins with the up-tempo title song as lead singer Kerry Landreth leads the band on this mainstream gem. They continue with the smooth, horn-infused melody of “Trip Around The Sun,” which sounds like it came from the 10,000 Maniacs catalog. Their new short release wraps up with the fun, youthful positiveness of “We Can Do It,” which features Kerry’s daughter on vocals and southern blues-rock groove of “More Than I Needed To Know.” To find out more about Birdseed and their latest vinyl-only release “Not Out Of Time,” please visit birdseedband.com.”

JP’s Music Blog Review: Jennifer Saran “Wake Up” [OUT TODAY!]

7 Jul

“American singer/songwriter Jennifer Saran is preparing to release her third studio album in three years. Her new release features guests like Carlos Santana and Ladysmith Black Mombazo and is titled “Wake Up.” Saran mixes together originals with covers songs, done her way. The new 15-song album begins with the wonderful harmonies of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, highlighted by the lead guitar of Carlos Santana on the island flavor of “Wake Up.” She pays tribute to the recently departed George Michael with a smooth, gentle cover of his song “Jesus To A Child” and also pays tribute to Billy Paul with a cover of “Me And Mr. Jones.” The energy picks back up with the African rhythm of “You Are My Star” as Saran duets with members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The tributes continue with her nostalgic cover of “Old Cape Cod” as a tribute to Patti Page and then an emotional delivery of “Lean On Me” as a tribute to Bill Withers. The album finishes with the beautiful ballad “My Love And Devotion” for Doris Day and the soulful prayer “Aad Guray.” To find out more about Jennifer Saran and her latest release “Wake Up,” please visit jennifersaran.com.”

JP’s Music Blog Review: Indubious “From Zero”

5 Jul

From Zero Cover_Low Rez

“From Portland, OR comes the island/reggae sound of the new album from Indubious titled “From Zero.” The band has collected a following by performing at festivals like Wakarusa and Gathering Of The Vibes and have been influenced by current artists like Michael Franti and Stephen Marley. Their new 14-song release begins with their mix of pop and reggae on “He Who Has Ears” as the beats keep the energy flowing, while “Rocketship” uses a more laid-back, island vibe. Dancehall artists Sizzla and Vaughn Benjamin lend a hand to the dubstep/dance sound of “Gold Ones” and “Don’t Lose Sleep.” The reggae/pop energy flows through “If You Follow,” before reaching the love song of “Perfect.” R&B singer Zahira lends her vocal talents to the smooth rhythm of “Root Down,” before Indubious close their new album with the hip-hop movement of “Sky High.” To find out more about Indubious and their latest release “From Zero,” please visit indubiousmusic.com.”

JP’s Music Blog Review: Cornell CC Carter “Vindicated Soul”

24 May

“Musical artist Cornell “CC” Carter has been entertaining fans for years. He released his first album, “Let’s Go Back” in 1996 and has performed with the greats like James Brown, Ray Charles and worked with Carlos Santana on his most recent album “Santana IV.” CC’s latest album, “Vindicated Soul” is a tribute to great artists of Soul music. He begins with the Shaft-like “Intro,” before finding his groove on the smooth delivery of Marvin Gaye’s “All The Way Around.” The R&B flavor of “I Choose You” represents the 1973 movie “The Mack,” which also inspired CC at a young age. CC’s vocals fit perfectly into soulful funk of “Next To You,” before finishing his new release with the wonderful, gospel-like soul of Al Green’s “Look What You’ve Done For Me.” To find out more about Cornell “CC” Carter and his latest release “Vindicated Soul,” please visit his Facebook page at facebook.com/Cornell-CC-Carter.”

JP’s Music Blog Review: Mark Duda “Month of Sundays”

19 Apr

From New York comes singer/songwriter/guitarist Mark Duda with his energetic debut album “Month Of Sundays.” It will released on April 14th and features the rhythm section of Tommy Price and Kenny Aaronson (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts) along with guitarist Jimi K. Bones (Blondie).

Duda’s new six-track album begins with the raw, punk-like energy of “Month Of Sundays” as he makes a great first impression with this up-tempo rocker. Punk guitar legend Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys) and drummer Bobby Rondinelli (Blue Oyster Cult) lend a hand on the seventies, nostalgic punk feel of “Murder On Delancey,” before diving into the sixties swing of “Standoff Love.” The album closes with the aggressive tones of “Connection” and the energetic, punk-rock delivery of “Subway Song.”
