Independent Distribution Collective presents our 47th Solicitation just in time for early fall 2012 placement (our fifth of this year). We are excited about many of these new releases and are very proud to have a handful of great artists joining IDC. You will also notice that IDC has slimmed down our back catalog and are now only printing a few one-sheets instead of a whole forest’s-worth. Zion I – ShadowBoxing – CD
Hip-Hop group Zion I continue to forge new ground musically on their latest LP Shadowboxing, a beat-heavy hiphop album decidedly grittier than past projects. Always pushing the literal—and figurative—needle forward, the duo, consisting of emcee Zumbi and producer Amp Live, have once again created something experimental and heartfelt. Shadowboxing features guests such as Bassnectar, Collie Buddz, Grouch and Eligh, and Goapele.
Diego’s Umbrella – Proper Cowboy – CD
Diego’s Umbrella’s fourth album, Proper Cowboy, released in July of 2012, marks a first time collaboration with San Francisco producers The Rondo Brothers (MC Lars, Foster the People). The union has resulted in a captivating new spin on the world that the band has created; the reverb-soaked guitars and gypsy fiddles have been augmented by an army of tubas, analog synths and soaring vocals in what they are calling a “futuristic Spaghetti-Western soundtrack.”
LUCE – Corner of the World – CD
LUCE began in 2000 as a one-man band when Tom Luce began writing songs in his bedroom in the foggy Richmond district of San Francisco. What later became the hit song, “Good Day,” was inspired by the prosaic life of the typical San Franciscan, yet is upbeat with an excitement of just being alive, much like the outlook of the group’s founder himself. This new release “Corner of the World” is another great album for LUCE’s ardent fans to enjoy.
Blame Sally – Speeding Ticket and A Valentine – CD
Blame Sally opted to self-produce Speeding Ticket and a Valentine, in hopes of more faithfully capturing the edginess of their live dynamic. That new enthusiasm is palpable from the start of the opening track, “Bird In Hand,” and in “Living Without You,” a hard-rocking song about a woman uncertain whether to be devastated or exhilarated by a relationship’s demise
Sarah Lee and Johnny – Bright Examples – CD
A lot can happen in five years, and for the husband-and-wife duo Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, the time between Exploration, their first album together in 2005, and Bright Examples (Ninth Street Opus Records, Feb. 22, 2011), their new, full-length collaborative project featuring producers Andy Cabic (lead singer/songwriter in the band Vetiver) and Thom Monahan (Devendra, Banhart, Vetiver), has been one nonstop whirlwind of activity.
Forrest Day – Forrest Day – CD
What are we to call this compellingly oddball mélange of rock, rap, jazz, reggae, and other influences, all in sway to some of the most mirthfully self-conscious streams of consciousness you’ve ever heard? We could call it attention-deficit-disorder rock. Or maybe we should just call it Forrest Day, the Bay-area bandleader who’s releasing his self-titled full-length debut on the Ninth Street Opus label.
